What We Do

In partnership with government agencies, attorneys, and public health advocates, the Public Health Trust (PHT) directs settlement funds toward developing and supporting a range of health programs.

Combining legal and public health expertise with effective program administration, PHT creates a unique service for litigation settlements.

What’s New

Upcoming Funding Opportunities

In early 2006, the Public Health Trust will issue two requests for proposals related to the settlement of Proposition 65 lawsuits on mercury in fish and seafood. PHT will seek proposals for 1) programs to monitor supermarket and restaurant compliance with warning sign requirements, and 2) programs to educate consumers concerning mercury in fish and seafood.

Specific instructions will be available in February. Watch this space for further information.

Exercise and Nutrition

PHT directed funds from the settlement of an illegal medical device case focused on “Ab Belt” Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) devices to the diabetes and nutrition programs of Community Clinic Ole. Metals in Herbal Supplements

This settlement was the result of a Proposition 65 lawsuit alleging the presence of toxic levels of heavy metals in traditional Chinese medicines and herbal supplements. The funds will be used to increase community awareness of the safety issues concerning herbal products and the health hazards posed by exposure to heavy metals contained in such products.
